I have always wanted to be a painter. As a young boy, when I wasn’t playing sport, I was either drawing or painting. After completing a 40-year career in business, I have reversed a decision I made on leaving school to now pursue a career as a painter.
I prefer to work in oils, though I can work effectively in acrylic and watercolour. I draw mainly in pencil or ink. I have enjoyed no formal training.
I adhere to no academic or cerebral philosophy about what I am trying to achieve with my painting; I just like to reinterpret what I see in front of me, ranging from still life, figurative through to landscapes and seascapes.
I like to experiment in an “abstractionist” vein because I enjoy the challenge of developing a subject, so the viewer still recognises the original motif but does not lose their interest in trying to interpret the picture.
Alongside my own painting, I run art workshops from my studio in Dorset employing local artists.
